OVERVIEW:
Provide strategic leadership for innovative teaching and learning across the nursing curriculum, evidence-based teaching strategies, and competency-based assessment.   Advance future-focused education through curricular innovation, inter-professional education, ethnical formation, and emerging technologies.  Partner with the Director of Nursing Simulation & Labs to align simulation and standardized patient experiences with curricular goals, while maintaining clear boundaries from simulation operations, assessment, and accreditation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Lead the development and integration of innovative, evidence-based educational strategies across the nursing curriculum with particular emphasis on the strategic integration of the Standardized Patient (SP) Program as a core learning modality.   Standardized patients are individuals trained to consistently portray specific patient personas, scenarios, or illnesses for training and assessing healthcare students.  They enable learners to practice communication, diagnostic, and physical exam skills in a safe environment, often providing feedback to learners.  
  2. Provide leadership for the design and integration of inter-professional education (IPE) and competency-based learning initiatives by leading IPE strategy development in collaboration with health sciences programs, medical education partners, and community organizations.  Coordinate IPE learning experiences that promote team-based practice, communication, and collaborative decision-making. 
  3. Identify, evaluate, and support the integration of emerging technologies that enhance nursing education by monitoring national trends in healthcare education, including artificial intelligence, digital health tools, virtual/augmented reality, and data-informed learning platforms.
  4. Lead the integration of ethical reasoning, professionalism, and social responsibility across the nursing curriculum by collaborating with faculty to embed ethics, health equity, cultural humility, and professional values into coursework and experiential learning. 
  5. Support program-level assessment and continuous improvement related to educational innovation by analyzing learning outcomes and feedback related to innovative educational initiatives. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in nursing and RI RN license required.   Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Five to seven years’ experience in nursing and/or healthcare or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Formal training in simulation education, instructional design, or educational technology.
  • Familiarity with CCNE accreditation standards and INACSL Standards of Best Practice.
  • Experience with interprofessional education initiatives.
  • Expertise in curriculum development, evidence-based teaching strategies, and competency-based assessment methods.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop, and Banner.
